On April 19, 2026, Mars met Saturn in the sky at the 8th degree of Aries. This conjunction is an important one. Astrologers have examined it for centuries to identify the nature of challenges for cities, states, and empires. The chart was set for New Orleans, Louisiana, at 5:18 pm.
Strengths in New Leadership
The planet Jupiter was high in the heavens, reflecting popular support for the new city leadership. Since her term began in January, Mayor Moreno has demonstrated commitment to care. Her administration has acted on pressing citizen concerns, such as fixing potholes and pressuring the Sewerage & Water Board to implement improvement plans. They have managed to keep the city solvent through cost-cutting and creative revenue collection efforts negotiated with government and business leaders.
City Facing External Threats
The Mars-Saturn conjunction was setting on the Western horizon when it perfected. Mars, Saturn, Mercury, and Neptune were in Aries. This fearsome foursome is in the 7th House, signifying alliances and enemies, contracts and disputes. When Mars and Saturn land here, it signals periods of conflict, breakdowns, and failures. There is friction in the city’s relationships.
From this alignment, a cycle begins for the next two years, until April 2028. In this cycle, rising tensions will impact civic harmony. It may be international or come from sources within the U.S., but the public’s attention will be directed toward external threats.
Disruptions in trade and travel will likely impact the city’s hospitality-based economy and exacerbate socioeconomic disparities. Changes that impact consumers and industry can occur quickly, with abrupt starts and stops. Mixed signals create uncertainty and a restless, anxious population.
With Mars-Saturn in opposition to the Ascendant, there may be real physical threats to safety. New Orleans is a major port and a vulnerable target for trade disruption. Even without aggression or violence, geopolitical conflicts complicate the city’s financial challenges and may lead to a crisis.
