The 12th day of the Holy Nights project landed on Epiphany, January 6. This day is celebrated in many parts of the Christian world as the day that the three Magi (Astrologers!) visited Jesus. It’s also known as Kings’ Day. It’s the beginning of Carnival season in New Orleans, and we celebrate with a special King Cake and, of course, parades.
I attended one of my favorite parades, from the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc, which honors the birthday (June 6, 1412) of the Maid of Orleans. The parade tells the story of Joan’s life through costume, art and music. It’s a story of a a military quest, religious zeal, an unlikely heroine, and fire—Sagittarian themes.
Hold the cross high, so I may see it through the flames.
- Joan of Arc

The three Fire signs are Aries (cardinal), Leo (fixed) and Sagittarius (mutable). In a horary chart, all three represent locations near fire or heat, and the Eastern direction. Sagittarius adds the indicator of high lands, hills, and horse stables.
Indoor locations attributed to Sagittarius are upper floors and rooms, and near a fire or heat source.

The symbol for Sagittarius is The Archer, depicted as a centaur, half-horse and half-human with bow in hand, aimed high. The figure hints at the body parts assigned to Sagittarius, hips and thighs—large muscles required for big physical movements.
Sagittarius also rules the liver, an essential organ that serves more than 500 functions in the human body. While best known for processing toxins in the blood, it also supports metabolism, immunity, digestion, and nutrition. And it’s the only organ that we know is capable of regenerating itself!
It’s fascinating to think about the three Fire signs as parts of the body as critical areas for blood flow and bodily function.
- Aries - the Head (and the Brain inside of it)
- Leo - the Heart
- Sagittarius - the Liver
Thank you for joining me in my 5th year of the 12 Holy Nights project, covering the 12 signs of the zodiac. I hope that it’s expanded your view about how astrology is used not just as a psychological tool, but as a paradigm and language for translating the physical world.
XOXO,
Denise
